American Motors Corporation said in their advertising, "With this car you could make life miserable for any GTO, Road Runner, Cobra Jet, or Mach 1." While not as famous as its bigger-name competition, the "Super Coupe" Rambler was built ready for the drag strip with a 390 CID V8 producing 315 horsepower. Hurst Performance collaborated with AMC on the small musclecar's production, a single-year run of only about 1,500. Optional factory and dealer-installed upgrades to the engine could even improve on AMC's advertised 14.3 second quarter-mile times for the "Scrambler".
