Only Generation (1971)
The Hornet "Super Coupe" was American Motors Corporation's 1971 attempt to strike a balance between affordability and high performance. With insurance rates for high-horsepower muscle cars beginning to rise at the end of the 60's, AMC dropped its initial planned 401 CID V8 engine model, and instead released the S/C with only one engine option, the 360 CID V8 taken from AMC's Javelin.
AMC produced fewer than 800 Super Coupes in 1971. Sluggish sales prevented the company from reviving the model for another generation, ensuring that the '71 high-horsepower Hornet became one of the rarest gems of the waning muscle car era.
